Ch10: Uneasy greetings by =Griddles:iconGriddles:

"I tell ya, Dex, something is WRONG!" Otto persisted. His eyes were wide and frantic behind his large circular glasses. It was lunchtime at Megaville Elementary, and Otto had found the only other boy in his year level who would understand him, "That new Rini girl doesn't come from this timeframe! She's not supposed to be here!"

Dexter chewed on his peanut butter sandwich thoughtfully, "So what you are saying is she is from the future?"

"Or the past, yeah." Otto nodded.

Dexter rolled his eyes, "You're like this with every new student that comes into the class, Otto. You were suspicious of the Powerpuff Girls-"

"Yeah, and they turned out to be superheroes!"

"Then there was that time you went off about Danny-"

"He's a flamin' GHOST, Dex!"

"AND then there was that Timmy kid in the other grade!"

"How would YOU take to seeing someone talking to green and pink milk cartons in the cafeteria!?"

"Seriously, Otto, I think you're just a bit paranoid." Dexter dismissed, straightening his own pair of glasses with his gloved hand.

Otto threw his hands up in surrender, "Fine, don't believe me. But my timewatch went CRAZY when she entered the room. It must have picked up the variance in her quantum signature!"

"Or the fact that our Principal is an absolute kook." Dexter grumbled.

Otto pretended he didn't hear that, "Ms Meryl probably knows a thing or two about Rini, I should ask her."

"You do that."

"Uh, hello!" came a voice.

Otto jumped and whirled. Rini stood there, dressed in her neat uniform, her lunchbox carried under one arm, a small book in her other hand. She smiled, her bright red eyes locked with Otto's. The Time Squad kid went as red as the girl's irises and stuttered a weak, "H-Hi..."

Rini glanced at Dexter, "Hi, I'm Rini."

Dexter gave her a quick glance then returned to the science textbook he was reading, "Yeah, I know."

Rini's grin faded.

Otto, who was still red, jumped in, "Uh... I was wondering, where are you from?"

Rini glanced at him, "Japan."

Otto chuckled nervously, "Ooh, hehe, long way... uh... how long did it take you to get here?"

"Five hours." was the immediate response. Rini turned away, "I wanted to just say hi, and tell Dexter that Blossom wanted to see him behind the dojo."

Dexter went a deep shade of red.

"I'll see you guys around, okay?" Rini gave another oblivious grin and started to walk away.

Otto knew he had his chance. His watch had shut up, but he still wanted answers. So he knew the time was now. His hands curled into fists and he felt slightly uneasy, not sure how the girl would take it. The little girl was slowly walking away, back toward the place where she had come from. Otto's eyes narrowed as he thought up the perfect question to stump her and get her to whirl around and answer him. Dexter got up and headed across toward the dojo where Blossom was no doubt waiting for him. It was just Rini and Otto now. A grin spread across his face and he licked his lips. The girl could easily hear him and he would just as easily get his answer. He was a genius. Tuddrussel would have to take lessons off him! His lips parted and he spoke, "So... what's the future like?"

Rini halted, frozen. The book fell from her grasp and his the grassy turf and she barely kept ahold of her lunchbox. She turned to him, eyes wide, her face a picture of horror or fear. He knew he had her. Her red eyes shone under the sunlight and her fairy-floss hair reflected the rays of light like a polished metal surface. The breeze caught the hem of her skirt and ruffled it playfully. The atmosphere between the two was flammable, as though a raging fire would ignite in the space across which their locked gazes stretched. Otto's mouth curled into a sly grin, whilst Rini's mouth hung half open in shock. It took a moment before she regained her form, picking up her book, dusting it off and holding her head high, "I don't know what you're talking about." she primly replied before turning and walking off.

Otto grinned, "Suuuuuure ya don't..." he knew he had her. He would haunt her with those words. It felt so good. Otto glanced around. Where the heck had Dexter disappeared to? Then he remembered: the dojo. With his girlfri- well, he denied that there was anything much going on, but after the action he took to save Blossom from his arch rival, there was every indication that SOMETHING was going on between them. Something not usually expressed in kids their age. He was almost jealous. Otto liked Blossom's sister Bubbles a lot, but she was a bit different to the red haired girl. For one thing, she was more playful and probably didn't understand those sorts of relationships that well. That, along with the thought of one day being related to Dexter, made Otto turn down the idea of pursuing Bubbles the way Dex liked Blossom.

Otto, still smiling smugly, sat down to eat. The grass was soft, which was great for casual clothes days when he wore shorts. The schoolyard was well kept, and Sensei Jack made sure it was also well protected. Otto was very comfortable here. He would lie back, but grass stains were common on the uniform's white shirt so he resisted. Larry had told him that grass stains were a real pain to wash out. As he took a bite of his cheese and lettuce roll, his watch beeped. Someone was contacting him. He tapped the watch, "Otto."

Dexter's face appeared, "Uh, hey, Otto. Could you come over to the dojo? There's something you should see."

"I thought the whole Dexter-Blossom friendship was a private matter." Otto lazily replied.

Dexter went slightly red, "Shut up, she might hear."

"Who might hear? Blossom? Why should she care about what I think?"

"Not Blossom.... come on, just get over here."

Otto chuckled, "Only if I'm best man at the weddi-

Dexter roared, "SHUT UP AND GET OVER HERE!"

Otto chuckled, "On my way." he tapped his watch, closing the link. He was still guffawing when he got up, shoved the last of his roll into his mouth and took off toward the dojo. He sprinted towards it, the small wooden building growing larger as he approached. He almost didn't recognise the beeping of his timewatch when it went off. When the ringing finally registered in his head, he glanced at the watch, which was blaring out the word PARADOX again. Otto really began to wonder about the watch and if it needed to be fixed or something. He tapped at it, just as he bumped into a girl with purple hair who was busy playing one of those Game Slave game things.

The purple-haired girl whirled on him as Otto took off again, "If you just made me lose this level I'll KILL you!"

Otto ignored the odd girl, and continued on. He straightened his glasses as he spotted Dexter and Blossom behind the dojo, along with someone else who he didn't recognise. The girl had white hair and a white outfit that was not a school uniform. Who was this? Otto slowed and came to a stop a few feet from the three, "Hey... guess... *puff* sorry... am here... what's the emergency?"

Blossom gestured to the white haired girl, "Otto... meet Bell."

Otto looked up into the eyes of the new girl and nearly screamed in shock. The girl's eyes were skull-white and blank and most of all completely inhuman. He shook with fear slightly, "You... You can't be... can't be human..."

The white eyed girl's eyes narrowed and she sneered, "At least he's not stupid."

"Y-You're a Powerpuff! B-But.. how? Your eyes... my god your EYES! You're like a ghost..."

Blossom looked a bit uneasy, "Bell... it's ok, he just doesn't understand..."

"Understand WHAT!?" Otto shouted, "You related to that Danny Fenton kid?"

"Danny who?" Bell asked.

Dexter shook his head, "Just explain to us who you are."

"Ok." Bell took a deep breath, despite lacking the need for oxygen. The boys didn't know that, though. Might as well go with the flow, "I am the daughter of an incredible scientist who, unfortunately, has gone just a bit too far with his creations."

"No bloody kidding!" Otto spat.

"SHUTUP!" Blossom growled.

Bell pressed on, "One of his creations is loose, and very, VERY dangerous. Her name is Barasia, and she... she is my sister."

Otto's building remark suddenly deflated as a huge sense of guilt and pity for the girl came over him. Now that he looked at the girl, with her diaphanous fountain of sugary white hair and those haunting ghostly eyes, she looked INCREDIBLY pretty. Dexter could have sworn he saw Otto go slightly red.

"My father is a genius but still he cannot stop Barasia. I need help. I've asked Blossom to help me, but her sisters do not even know me, or that I exist. My father's original intention was for me to kill Blossom and her sisters," she paused, watching as the boys' eyes widened behind their glasses, "but now he knows that there are far greater things at stake here. I cannot continue on my path of destruction if there is a far greater threat than Blossom in the way."

"I fought her, guys." Blossom told them, "She's not the kind of person you think she is. On the outside she may look cold, icy, unreachable... but she's my friend-"

"What?" Bell turned to Blossom, "I'm your WHAT?!"

Blossom blinked, "F-Friend... you're my friend. What's wrong with that?"

Bell grit her teeth, "We are acquaintences, NOT friends. If you want to be my... friend... then you have to prove to me that humans are not the kind of people that my dad says they are."

Dexter spoke up, "So... your dad isn't human?"

Bell's eyes narrowed, "Not anymore..."

Dexter blinked.

"You're Dexter, aren't you... rival of Sus- I mean... rival of Mandark's?"

Dexter nodded, "I was. Mandark's dead now. I guess he earned it."

Faster than Blossom could react, Bell had Dexter pinned against the wall of the dojo, her other fist raised back, ready to strike, "WHAT DID YOU SAY!?" Bell screamed.

Dexter struggled, "What the hell is going on here!?"

"Bell, let him go!" Blossom demanded.

Bell's eyes narrowed, and her grip around Dexter's throat tightened, "NO!"

Blossom's eyes lit up, and two rays of pinkish light struck out and impacted against Bell's dress. Bell dropped Dexter and turned on Blossom. Blossom recognised this. Bell appeared to have no way to control her animal-like tendencies. Once something maddened her, she shifted into battle mode. And in that mode, she was no better than Barasia. Bell pounced, knocking Blossom off her feet. They landed on the ground, Bell atop Blossom, the white girl pinning Blossom down by pressing her shoulders into the soft earth. Blossom could not get free. She didn't try to change that, either. She knew Bell well enough.

Otto suddenly appeared from behind them and slammed his foot into Bell's stomach, "OFF!" but his shoe hit against something hard. VERY hard. Harder than bone. His eyes widened, "Oh.... my.... god..."

Bell snarled, releasing Blossom and advancing on Otto. The time boy gulped and backstepped but the white girl instead grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and held him off the ground. Otto hung there, rather pathetically, in Bell's clamp-like grip.

"BELL!" came a shout, before something leapt off the top of the dojo and tackled Bell to the ground, Bell releasing Otto in the process. The newcomer was dressed in dark blue and appeared to have what looked like sky-blue streamers flying out the back of her head. When Otto's vision cleared, he saw that the streamers were not, in fact, streamers but instead two long ponytails. And the person was another young girl dressed in a Powerpuff dress. She stood, her eyes also navy blue, her hair as light as the sky above them. Two red and white checkred scarves tied her hair back, and she had a rather spiky fringe. Also, she didn't seem to have much expression on her face. "C'mon Bell... you know that you're not supposed to kill the people you wanna warn about Barasia."

Bell brushed herself off, "Only if they were a bit more sensitive..."

Breannin rolled her eyes, "Well at least nobody's hurt. I thought you were s'posed to be on the look out for me, as my older sister."

"OLDER sister?" Dexter asked, "You're bot the same age! Same as Blossom and her sisters are."

Breannin shook her head, "No, I was created after Bell was, who in turn was created after Barasia."

Otto blinked, "Wow... I sure wouldn't wanna be in your shoes."

Breannin blinked, "My shoes?" she clearly didn't get it.

Otto muttered, "Forget it..."

"So what does this Barasia problem have to do with us?" Dexter asked. Blossom gave him a sidelong glance.

"It seems..." Breannin replied, "that the only way to fight the power of science is with science. You two are boys of science, correct?"

Otto grinned sheepishly, "I'm more into history, myself..." he admitted, before Dexter whacked him on the arm.

Breannin nodded, "In order to combat the lethal potential of Barasia, we may require your assistance. If it were not for the likely demise of Mandark, we would have called him to our aid, too."

Bell growled.

Dexter balled his fists, his teeth grating together, "After everything that happened between us, I find it hard to accept the possibility of the two of us working together..."

Bell's white eyes narrowed, "And now... that'll never happen."

Dexter looked up, into Bell's eyes, "Why do you defend him so much?"

Bell's eyes narrowed and she stared at the ground, "Mandark... he... he and I..." she broke off, sniffing. Her knees wobbled ever so slightly as she walked away, keeping her depression to herself. Dexter blinked, at a total loss for words, not knowing what to even think.

"Don't ask me," Breannin said, "I wasn't around back then, and she never tells me."

Blossom sighed, "Another tragic fairytale romance story, I think."

Dexter snorted, "Romance? With MANDARK?"

"Hey, he loved DeeDee!" Blossom retorted.

Otto backed off, not wanting to get involved. He also didn't know whether Blossom had told Dexter about the little trip she took with him, witnessing the terrible event that would forever change Dexter's life. He didn't know how Dexter would react to that.

Dexter lowered his gaze, "Things just seem to get stranger and stranger, worse and worse. So now it's a black girl? Bell's twisted sister? What's the difference between her and you?"

Blossom sighed, rubbing her head, "You're better off not knowing..."

"Blossom!" came a shout. Blossom whirled to be greeted by Buttercup and Bubbles, running toward her. Buttercup's eyes were narrowed, "What the hell is going on here?" asked Buttercup, eyeing the two other girls.

Bubbles came to a halt, stared at Breannin, and then softly mumbled, "I thought I was the blue one..."

"What's this about?" asked Buttercup, "Who are these cheap imitation 'puffs?"

Blossom put her hands on her hips, grumpily, "They're my friends, BC, so I suggest you listen to what they have to say."

Buttercup growled, "Okay, this better be good."

Bell turned, controlling her emotion, "Ok... it's time for you to find out the truth behind myself and my sister. Only Blossom knows, but you two," Bell notioned to Bubbles and Buttercup, "will have some questions answered by what I'm about to say. Dexter, please, keep the excitement and/or intrigue to a minimum. You ready?"

The group nodded.

Bell lifted her chin a bit, her eyes narrowing as though suspecting something from the group, "Myself and Breannin... we're robots."

There was a dead silence, except for Blossom, who was not meeting Bell's eyes. Was that guilt within those cute magenta orbs? Dexter's eyes widened behind his large specs as he stared at the girl that practically anyone would pass off for a real human. Otto merely blinked, realising that it was a metallic rib that he had kicked whilst Bell was atop Blossom. Bubbles brought her hands to her mouth in silent shock, whilst Buttercup gave a small smirk. Breannin folded her arms.

Bell clarified, "A syntehtic gynoid, actually."

Dexter stuttered, "D-Duotronic? Graviton? Positron net?"

"Positronic, possibly upgrading to graviton in the near future." Bell replied, her eyes drifting closed, the little girl looking like a little angel.

"I gotta meet the person who can create something like you! You're just so.... believable! So real!" Dexter oggled, Blossom casting a rather annoyed glance at him.

Bell sighed, "Well... maybe someday you will. But that's not important right now. I need your help to fight Barasia. You have no idea the danger she poses to this planet."

Buttercup huffed, "Why don't you just whip out your arm cannons? Blow a hole through her thick head?"

Bell shook her head, "Because Breannin and I don't have arm cannons."

"Huh?" Buttercup and Bubbles replied together.

Bell made things clear, "My father decided that, if he was to create a girl that was artificial, that it must be as human as possible. No weapons, no add-ons, no fancy features. Just pure human, nothing to deviate us from the vision he had..."

"Had?"

Bell shook her head, "I mean has. Has. His vision was for the perfect little girl. His work left him no time for a family, so he made his work into his family." Bell held her head high, "I am probably one of the most advanced robotic lifeforms in the world. But Barasia far outstrips me. Because she didn't want to follow my father's vision." she sighed, "She outfitted herself with weapons, she was refitted with a Cluster positronic net and she turned evil to the core. Unlike us. We were built for destruction, but we still had the power to think for ourselves. To tell you the truth, I've come a long way. But all Barasia managed to do was take an enormous step backwards." She finished with that, saying no more.

Buttercup raised an eyebrow, "So you want us to team up with something evil to help beat something even more evil?"

"The evilest of evil." Bell nodded.

Bubbles spoke up, "The evilest of evil is Him!"

Bell cast her a dark, menacing stare, "You wanna back that up, blondie!?"

Bubbles whimpered but did not reply.

Bell glared at Bubbles, the little Powerpuff intimidated by the white girl's mere presence. It was no surprise, having almost killed Dexter. But Bell knew she could get a lot worse when she got really mad. She remembered waking up from a peaceful sleep, an instinct in her mind telling her that Susan, her longtime friend and helper, was dead. Destroyed, when his fortress self-destructed. She had gotten mad. Furious. Not at Susan for his irrational decisions, but at her father, X. She had stormed from her bedroom to find her father and Zim playing videogames. She has blasted apart the television, before nearly wiping out Black Eden entirely, her rage directed at her father, who had sat there and watched as Susan killed himself. Her anger was misplaced, as not even her father could do anything about it, lest he expose himself as a manipulator, but her power had nearly killed everything. She was threatened with a grounding, but realised that she had flown off the hook wrongly when Gir had found a gift meant for her, from Susan himself. She had read the letter, and understood. It HAD been Susan's wish to kill them, even if it meant destroying himself. But it hadn't worked. Now she had to team up with the very people Susan was trying to bring down. She felt guilty about what she had done, how she had upset her father. She wanted to make things right. But nonetheless, get Bell angry and there was hell to pay.

Breannin spoke next, "In order to-"

BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP

All eyes fell on Otto. The time kid rolled his eyes and glanced at his watch. He sighed as his eyes scanned the holographic display on the small device, projecting an interface above it. Otto blinked in disbelief. The others stared at him. Otto blinked again, silent. His mouth opened and mouth words that the others could not make out, before the watch stopped beeping, the holographic display fading. Otto blinked once more, before turning to the group. His eyes were wide, in disbelief. Obviously not another paradox issue. The others glared at him, Buttercup trying hard to stand still. Bell's eyes were narrowed. Was it Barasia? Had something bad happened? Had something GOOD happened? Otto's stunned expression gave no answers.

Until Otto broke into a huge grin.

"WHAT, DAMMIT!?" spat Buttercup.

Otto stammered, "Temp... temporal inc... inc-"

Dexter palmed his forehead, "Oh no, not an incursion. It's an incursion, right!?"

Otto nodded his head frantically like a little kid asked if he wanted to visit a candy store.

Dexter groaned.

"Whassa in-cushion?" asked Bubbles.

Dexter explained, his European accent heavy in his voice, "A temporal incursion is when a person goes backward or forward in time to alter the flow of time. It's not supposed to happen as time is like a river and needs to flow its course. The Time Squad was formed partially to combat those who want to disrupt the flow of the past, present and future."

Otto glanced at his watch, "I dunno what I can do about it, but I know someone who can. But we can't speak to him here. We need to find a quiet place."

"What about the forest?" asked Bell and Blossom together, recalling the place where they had first fought. They glanced at each other, Blossom stifling a giggle.

Otto nodded, "Okay! Okay... uh... you wanna meet this friend of mine?"

Bubbles grinned, Breannin nodded, Bell and Blossom both replied "Yes." whilst Buttercup twirled her finger in the air, not fussed.

Otto grinned, "Okay. Follow me."

"What's your friend's name?" asked Bubbles, trailing behind Otto as they headed toward the large dark barrier of trees that was the Megaville Elementary Forest.

Otto shrugged, "I call him the Doctor."

Bubbles tilted her head, "Doctor Who?"

Otto gave a sly grin, "Precisely..."
